Hunting Party Rule Clarification
1Q.
Is the Shadow considered a Dark Agent when using abilities from the Barbarian, Amazon, Monk, Paladin, Witch, etc?
1A.
No, Dark Agents are only the minions of the Shadow.
2Q.
With the Necromancer vs. the Priest, if someone in the Priest's party dies, the (champion) Necromancer could sacrifice someone and steal the character before it is revived by the Priest based on timing rules? Same question with Shaman and Shaman's Sustaining Shroud.
2A.
Yes, assuming it is the Priests turn. Although the Necromancer would not have to make this assumption if he used his normal ability to cancel the Priest's resurrection. Remember a hunter can use both abilities as long as the ability cost can be paid.
3Q.
Royal bodyguard vs. Demagog. Can the (champion) Bodyguard prevent the Demagog from putting extra shares on hunters? Is this considered meddling with the hunter or the share?
3A.
Yes, the Royal Bodyguard can prevent the Demagog from putting an extra share on one of his hunters. This is also true of the Royal Bodyguard's Breastplate.
4Q.
In the evil combination I had with the Witch and Bard I was able to remove a share from another hunter and negate the cost. Was I required to have the 3 gold available to spend, or is it a completely free action since the Witch negates the cost?
4A.
The Witch-Bard combo is completely free, but can only be done once per round because of the Witch's ability cost.
5Q.
When Shapeshifter's potion is used to change the sex of a hunter does it stay on them or do you just have to remember that they were changed? If it stays, does the equipment slot used by the potion have to be available?
5A.
When the Shapeshifter's potion is used to change the sex of a hunter, it does not stay on the hunter. You just have to remember.
6Q.
Can the Court Jester's Hat only go on a hero with an empty head slot?
6A.
A player can equip the Court Jester's Hat on any player's hunter, but only during their turn, only to a hunter without a headgear, and not the Monk (since he cannot have items).
7Q.
If the Thief is a hero/champion can he steal the Court Jester's Hat off another hunter in his party, allowing the player to play it back on his opponent's hunters?
7A.
Correct. The Thief hero/champion has no fear of the Court Jester's Hat.
8Q.
If I have the (champion) Thief, Paladin, and Ranger, can I steal an equipment off the Ranger, un-fatigue the Thief with the Paladin, steal another equipment off the Ranger, then play both equipment back on the Ranger to gain 2 gold each turn?
8A.
Thief-Paladin-Ranger combo is a good 2 gold per turn generator.
9Q.
When the Summoner's normal ability is used, does the hunter which was revealed stay on top of the stack, or do you shuffle them?
9A.
A summoned hunter by the Summoner's normal ability stays on top of the stack. This is also a good way of finding out who is at a particular place before hiring.
10Q.
If you have the Gladiator and his net on a different hunter in the group you get +8 on hunts right?
10A.
A party with the Gladiator and the Gladiator's Net on different hunter would result in 8 gold. You could take this even further with Dwarven Blacksmith's Pack copying the Net for a plus 12.
11Q.
The rules on fatigue and once per turn say that they become available again when the player to your right finishes. Does this mean that using the Warlock/Warlock's potion don't allow hunters to unfatigue or use once per turn abilities again on your extra turn if they were already used on the original turn?
11A.
Taking an extra turn does not reset once-per-round abilities. However, it does reset fatigue (once per turn cost), since fatigue resets at the beginning of a player's turn (page 13).
12Q.
I saw the other rules question about negative shares, but it doesn't seem quite right...If you lose friendship from someone that was at 0, but not because of the friendship, are shares added to the hunter? (i.e. the Royal Bodyguard is hired for 2 shares and both are subsequently removed by the Bard. Then, the Princess is hired which doesn't remove any shares since he was at 0 already. If the Princess dies do shares get added to the bodyguard)? It doesn't seem like they should since she didn't remove any in the first place, but if it was your intent for this to happen that's fine. Just wanted to be sure.
12A.
The Royal Bodyguard gets upset if his Princess dies and costs two more shares, even if he was a volunteer before she joined the party. It cuts down on the memory issue, and supports the theme.
13Q.
What would happen if you hired the Paladin for 1 share and then hired the Princess? Would the Paladin be worth 0 shares or is there some way to represent -1? Furthermore, if the Paladin goes to 0 instead of -1 and then someone uses the Demagog's potion to add a share, does the Paladin go up to 1 share or stay at 0 because he was really at -1?
13A.
There is no such thing as negative shares. If you bring someone below zero in whatever way, they remain at zero. Thus, if you then bring them above zero again in whatever way, then add to their shares from zero. Thus, to use your example, the Paladin would go to 1 share after the Demagog's potion. In fact, if you then lose the Princess, he would then gain another 2 shares, making him at 3.
14Q.
What happens if you owe more shares than you have? For instance, you have 3 hunters in your party and no more shares left on your hero. What if someone uses the Demagog's potion on one of your hunters? You now owe them a share you don't have, and what happens if you don't have the gold to disband any?
14A.
The result would be a Party Disband as explained on page 15. A Party Disband is where you have to lose every member of your party, all your gold, silver, items, and your turn and is required if you owe more shares than you have at the beginning of your turn. However, if you can disband or kill someone to pay the needed shares, you can avoid a party disband.
15Q.
What happens if I disband the Warlock to take an extra turn during someone else's turn? It reads "take an extra turn after the current turn". So do you take a turn after the player whose turn it is now, which could result in you taking a turn out of turn? Or do you wait until your turn and take 2 turns?
15A.
Yes, you would take a turn after the player's whose turn it is now. This will result in you taking a turn out of turn.
16Q.
Can you use a hunter's ability that has a cost, then disband them, then rehire them that same turn and use the ability again? I would think you can certainly use a fatigue ability because when you hire someone they are not fatigued. You couldn't use the "skip your action" ability because then you couldn't hunt. But what about the "once per round" ability?
16A.
No, you can not use a "once per round" ability again, even if you rehire him. Also, if you steal a hunter from a player who has use a hunter's "once per round" ability then you cannot use it again until your turn.
17Q.
Someone uses the Demagog's champion ability to place an equipment on your hunter thereby adding a share to them. If you get rid of that equipment later either by destroying it or stealing it do you get that share back? In other words, is that share attached to the equipment or is it added in the act of adding the equipment with the Demagog's ability?
17A.
It is added to the act of adding the equipment, so no destroying the equipment will not remove a share. Also note adding equipment of the type that hunter needs to be a champion puts salt in the wound.
18Q.
Are you saying that with the Demagog if you add an equipment to a hunter that would make him a champion it doesn't make them a champion? Don't you normally get the ability from the equipment when it's added by the Demagog? Or were you saying you could use the Demagog to, for instance, equip the Knight's Shining Armor on another player's Dwarven Blacksmith even though he also has the Knight? But now the Dwarf is wearing the Knight's Shining Armor and he costs a share more.
18A.
Right, equip a hunter with an equipment in the slot that their Item goes so that they can't turn them into a champion. The funniest thing to do with this ability is equip someone like the Oracle with the Jester's Hat. The Oracle then costs an additional share, is always fatigued, and cannot be made into a champion since her item is also a headgear.
19Q.
Can you disband during hiring on someone else's turn to bid more shares for the hunter?
19A.
Yes, Page 7 states, Disbanding can be done at any time, except during a hunt.
20Q.
Does the Witch's champion ability mean that you get another hunter's shares PLUS hers or INSTEAD of hers?
20A.
Plus, assuming you are the Witch. If you are not then you get the others and your normal shares.
21Q.
How does the Sorceress work in a 4/5 player game?
21A.
For all logistic purposes the player you are sharing prophecy cards with is not in the thwarting rotation while you are hunting and you thwart your own hunt last. She can still make you start with the player on your right or her right.
22Q.
What do we do if you run out of gold?
22A.
Play more defensively, just kidding. If there are not enough gold coins use the pie pieces outside the game to represent 10 gold. Also, you might want to try incorporating the shadow rules on page 19.
23Q.
When stealing a hunter what about the shares that were removed, from abilities like the Gypsy. For example, if I had removed all 3 shares from the Bounty Hunter leaving him at 0.
23A.
The stealing player would get him for 0 shares.
24Q.
When items/equipment/heroes are used do they just get recycled in the same order they were in? We had an issue with the Druid's potion being used repeatedly to get the Assassin's potion since we all knew which market stack it got buried under the previous time. An astute player could also have remembered the order some of the dark agents were fought in and known what was coming.
24A.
Yes, there is a memory element to the game. The only caveat to that is, items go to market stacks where it would make them relatively even, but this would not stop a player from remembering which stack that was.
25Q.
Is the Amazon's second combat skill an additional Range or any skill? IE, can the Amazon beat the Chimera (range and magic)?
25A.
The Amazon's second fighting skill can be anything.
26Q.
When a hunter is killed do his items go back to the deck, out of the game, or can they be assigned to other hunters in the party?
26A.
Items follow the fate of the hunter they are on, see page 9. If a hunter is killed then all the cards (hunter & items) go back under their respective stack.
27Q.
At the end of the game, after killing the Shadow, you get the bounty of 40 gold to be divided into the shares. Why would you buy anything after that point? Do you need X amount of gold to win? Why do you bother getting anything right when the game ends?
27A.
Once the Shadow is defeated the game is over, and there is no time to purchase other items. I think the confusion comes from the fact that when players fail to hunt the Shadow correctly (i.e. wrong prophecy skills) they must fight a Dark Agent (minion of the Shadow). Some of these Dark Agents will have items, see page 17. Defeating Dark Agents however does not end the game.

Because the bounty on the Shadow is 40 gold, each share will be worth 5 gold. Therefore players can make it 1 share harder for every 5 gold they have more then their opponents.
28Q.
When Thwarting a Hunt, what happens when I am the only ones with the skills declared in the hunt? Can I choose to not thwart the hunt and lose the hunt to the Shadow?
28A.
If any player can thwart the hunt then the Shadow isnot found, as stated on page 11. The active player would simply report to the other players that he can thwart the hunt and proceed to fighting a Dark Agent as usual. Thwarting the hunt is never a choice even if it is your own hunt you declared.
29Q.
Do I have to resurrect a Hunter immediately upon dying, or can I wait until later in the turn? Can a hunter who is being resurrected use an ability while the resurrection is being resolved. For example, the Arch Mage dies and is resurrected by the Priest. Then after Necromancer stops the resurrection can the Arch Mage use his ability to nullify the Necromancer's ability?
29A.
Resurrection must be done while the hunter is dying and since it is while they are dying the Hunter can still use their abilities. It might help to think of it as more of a healing. The shares on a hunter resurrected will not change.
30Q.
What is the conversion rate of silver to gold?
30A.
Four silvers equal one gold
31Q.
Can Player B add a share using the Demagog's ability if Player A resurrects the Hunter?
31A.
The resurrection actually prevents the death. Thus, the character never died and the Demagog's ability doesn't apply. As mentioned before Heal would have been a better name for the Priest's ability.
32Q.
Does the Shaman's ability remove hate from Hunter's attempting to hire or just the Hunter's in his party? Specifically can the Shaman bid two on the Amazon if he only has two shares?
32A.
The Shaman's champion ability allows you to ignore all hate.
33Q.
Can the Royal Bodyguard and/or the Royal Bodyguard's Breastplate protect an item from being affected? Point in question: Hunter has bodyguard's breastplate and another item. Can Witch Hunter destroy the other item, or must the Royal Bodyguard's Breastplate be destroyed first?
33A.
The Royal Bodyguard's Breastplate states that the Hunter cannot be affected by other players or hunters. It does not say that the Hunter's items cannot be affected. So you can destroy the breastplate or any other item equipped on the hunter. However, the Royal Bodyguard's Champion ability would allow him to protect any item on a hunter once per round.
34Q.
What is the deal with champion items that are potions? Once equiped, is the card a potion or an equipment? Can a champion's item potion be killed by the Arch Mage's potion because it's a potion? Can it be killed by the Witch Hunter's potion because it's an item? Can it be stolen by the Marauder's potion because it is equiped?
34A.
To be specific, potions and equipment are both considered "items". So, the Witch Hunter's potion can destroy champion potions but the Marauder's potion cannot steal them, since the Marauder's potion states "Steal an equipment". That was an intentional balancing difference. Also, the Arch Mage's potion cannot destroy a Potion equipped on a hunter, it can only nullify the effects of using a potion. Also, a potion equiped is not used, or can it be used by the hunter. For example the Priest cannot use the Priest's potion to save his life if it is equiped to make him a champion.
35Q.
With the Royal Bodyguard's Breastplate Who is the hunter to be "male"? The one with the breastplate? Or the one attackin/affecting the wearer?. And, in the first case, what if you use the sex-changing potion on him?
35A.
As with the Knight's Shining Armor, Witch's Red Slippers, and the Princess' Glass Slippers the Hunter equipped must have the proper sex. They can still be equipped if they have the wrong sex, but this will not add the item's ability. If the Shapeshifter's potion is used then the ability will either stop or start working.
36Q.
Does the Court Jester's Hat prevent the equipped Hunter from going hunting and using their fatigue ability?
36A.
Yes, assuming the Hunter isn't the Court Jester.
37Q.
What does the Oracle's ability of read aloud the Prophecy mean?
37A.
On each Prophecy card there is a left page with the poem and the right page with the skill. The Oracle's ability and the Book of the Prophet would have the player read the left side.
38Q. If one item stack is getting smaller than the other two, should further discarded items be placed in that stack until the three stacks are even, or should items be placed in each stack regardless of stack size?
38A. Discarded items should be placed in the smaller stack until each stack is relatively even. Players should return items such that the stacks are kept within one or two cards of each other in number.
